“Am I the only one without a gift?” Du Pengfei chimed in, unwilling to be ignored.
Neither Qi Sheng nor Shuai Chang acknowledged him. Qi Sheng hesitated, glanced at Shuai Chang, and unfastened the line, retrieving a thick stack of papers from inside.
“Here are my property transfer and divorce agreement. Just sign it, and all my assets will belong to you.”
Qi Sheng stood frozen with the documents in hand, his lips pressed tightly together.
Shuai Chang reached out and hugged him briefly. “I’m leaving now; you don’t need to see me off.”
With that, Shuai Chang pushed the door and left, leaving only Qi Sheng and Du Pengfei in the villa. Both were shocked by Shuai Chang’s actions and remained in a daze for a long time.
Du Pengfei remarked, “…No one can compare to my old friend.” By retreating, he offered everything without even an apology, knowing Qi Sheng would feel guilty for overthinking, planning to reclaim it later. Genius move!
“That being said, former sister-in-law, since you’ve finished sorting this out without me, I’ll be on my way.” After finishing, Du Pengfei didn’t wait for Qi Sheng to respond and left the villa.
Qi Sheng trembled as he sat down. As he relaxed his grip, the documents fell to the ground, scattering across the floor—billions’ worth of property transfer papers that he hadn’t even looked at.
The previous night, his father had suddenly summoned him home. Upon returning, he found Du Pengfei there as well. Qi Sheng didn’t know him, but Du Pengfei explained his relationship with Lu Ming Shen. Then he dropped a bombshell, claiming that Lu Ming Shen had sabotaged the Qi family’s business, all because Qi Sheng had rejected his advances and publicly ridiculed him at a charity gala.
Not fully convinced by Du Pengfei’s assertions, he asked for proof. Du Pengfei played a recording for him, and as someone close to Lu Ming Shen, Qi Sheng had no doubt that the voice on the recording was indeed Lu Ming Shen’s.
Qi Sheng’s mother was sobbing uncontrollably, repeatedly lamenting, “How could this happen?”
Indeed, he couldn’t wrap his head around it either.
Surprisingly, Qi Sheng’s father remained the calmest. He sighed and patted Qi Sheng’s shoulder. “Xiao Sheng, I know you like him. If you choose to be with him, I won’t oppose it. Ming Shen made some immature mistakes. Without the company, you don’t need to go to work every day; it’s fine to stay home and be with your mom.”
Qi Sheng reflected for a full day and night, having not closed his eyes in over forty hours due to fatigue, yet he couldn’t fall asleep. At five in the morning, he returned to the villa and began preparing the living room. While chopping vegetables, Lu Ming Shen hugged him from behind. He didn’t dare turn around, the ache in his nose unbearable as he desperately held back tears.
Lu Ming Shen’s embrace was warm; he wished it could last forever. Qi Sheng decided that after giving a gift, he would confront Lu Ming Shen, indicating that he was aware of everything and could forgive him… Yet, Lu Ming Shen was far colder than he imagined! Qi Sheng nearly burst out in a fit of frustration.
What asset transfer and divorce agreement? Did anyone consult him before making those decisions?
Qi Sheng stood up, went to the kitchen, and grabbed a broom and dustpan to sweep up the scattered A4 papers into the trash. He took out his phone to call Lu Ming Shen, but he didn’t answer. After two attempts, the third call finally connected.
“Xiao Sheng…”
“Lu Ming Shen, you need to come back right now!” Qi Sheng’s voice strained with suppressed tears, “You jerk! How could you do this to me?” With that, he hung up the phone, tears streaming uncontrollably.
He felt heartbroken, unable to stop crying. He had used up all the tissues on the coffee table, resorting to wiping his face with his sleeves.
When Shuai Chang entered, he saw Qi Sheng surrounded by tissues, his eyes red and swollen, tears still flowing. Panic gripped him, and he hurried over, crouching in front of Qi Sheng. “Baby, I’m sorry. You can punish me. You’ve broken my heart.”
“You… waah, you’re so mean.” Qi Sheng sniffled. Actually, he felt he had cried enough, but he couldn’t stop the tears. The memory of Shuai Chang leaving so coldly stung his heart, and the tears flowed endlessly.
“Alright, alright.” Shuai Chang tenderly embraced Qi Sheng. “I love you so much; how could I ever want a divorce? The divorce agreement was fake. I was just teasing you; please don’t cry.”
Qi Sheng buried his face in Shuai Chang’s chest, and before long, the fabric became damp from his tears. Shuai Chang continually comforted him, and after about five minutes, noticing the wetness on his shirt had stopped spreading, he looked down to find that Qi Sheng had fallen asleep.
Carefully, he picked Qi Sheng up and laid him on the bed in their bedroom.
Qi Sheng’s eyelids, nose, and cheeks were all red, streaked with tear stains.
Shuai Chang gently wiped Qi Sheng’s face with a wet towel.
Qi Sheng slept for a full day and night, only awakening when Shuai Chang gently roused him, fearing dehydration, and offered him some saltwater, after which he drifted back to sleep.
The next day at noon, Qi Sheng rolled over, his eyes fluttering open slowly as he regained consciousness.
Feeling a bit dazed, he sat up and surveyed his surroundings. After a moment, he finally recalled what had transpired the previous day.
He got up and went to wash up. Coming down the stairs, he caught a whiff of something aromatic wafting from the kitchen. Approaching, he saw Shuai Chang cooking porridge.
Shuai Chang smiled slightly upon seeing him. “You’re awake? The porridge will be ready soon.”
It felt so casual that Qi Sheng began to believe that everything he experienced yesterday was merely a figment of his imagination.
Shuai Chang turned off the heat, took a small porcelain bowl, and scooped out a spoonful of preserved egg and lean meat congee. “I’ll bring it to you. Would you prefer to eat on the sofa or at the dining table?”
Qi Sheng pondered for a moment; the sofa seemed cozier. “On the sofa.”
“I know you have a lot of questions. We can talk after you finish your porridge.”
Qi Sheng nodded and lowered his head to sip the porridge.
There wasn’t much in the bowl, and Qi Sheng finished it in just a few mouthfuls, gazing intently at Shuai Chang. “Now, tell me.”
Shuai Chang explained, “I knew Du Pengfei would come back and reveal the truth to you, which was heartbreaking. I felt powerless to change the situation, so I devised a plan to transfer the assets to you and drafted a fake divorce agreement. I swear, I never intended to divorce you!” Shuai Chang raised his hand as if swearing an oath.
Qi Sheng shot him a glare. “Well, I was the one who wanted to get a divorce, and you ran off at the drop of a hat.”
Shuai Chang embraced him, unable to hide his smile. “I know, baby, you love me the most.”
